I've been meaning to pick this one up. The only thing holding me back has been my lack of online friends (well, at least the type who play these games).

How's the online matchmaking tool in the full release? I heard that it was kinda clunky in the demo; have the issues been ironed out?

Good article.

Further thoughts:

1. Wonderful article, son. Left 4 Dead is pure Hollywood. I’ve been reading about the many kinds of cinematic visual effects (inspired by horror movies) that have been added to the game (i.e. film grain to expose or imply details in dark areas, and vignetting to evoke tension and a horror-film ambiance). The devil's in the details.

2. After we played that night, I had a dream that I was a Boomer and that I walked into my Boss’ office …. Etc. Etc. Barbarism begins at home.

3. If you turn around and find that one of your mates is pinned to the ground by a Hunter with several Horde “in on the action”, well, friendly fire takes on a whole new meaning. Machinegun the general area and ask questions later.

4. Defending a position from an onslaught of Infected (until rescue arrives) is completely unnerving; one minute you’re fully healthy, with a first-aid kit, and the next you’re getting clusterf*cked in a dark corner by a Tank. The pacing in this game is perfect.

5. Are we playing tonight, son?

Pure Hollywood indeed. I couldn't agree with you more and the AI Director is remarkably apt at springing on you the unexpected. I think it has decided, however, that my sworn enemy is the Smoker, as that is the one beast that always seems to catch me off-guard and by the throat.
