Thanks for the review. I see the commercials for Gears of War and they always peak my interest but for me its the serious eye candy. I'm a sucker for a good looking game. Load on the high resolution graphics and throw in some dazzling light shows and I'm there. Hey, I don't mind admitting it. That's what they are counting on and for me it works.

However, what KEEPS me interested is story. The story has to capture my imagination and I need something meaningful to take me from point A to B, a reason to care enough to push through the carnage of a seemingly endless horde of monsters thirsting for my blood. Glittering graphics with savage action but no story is like a one night stand with a stranger. Titillating and naughty but ultimately an empty experience.

Not that I speak from experience...

I just finished playing the entire Half Life 2 series (HL2, HL2Ep1, & HL2Ep2) for what must be the fifth time. THERE is brilliant writing. All the eye candy I could ask for (I play it at 1920 x 1440 with everything maxed) and an engrossing storyline.

You've helped me curb my curiosity for GoW2. Now all I have to due is endure another 2 year wait for Half Life 2 Episode 3.
